The Innovation GPS is a powerful tool that measures and promotes innovation within the public sector, driving better outcomes for Aotearoa. Nomad Studios was engaged to lead the redesign of the Innovation Barometer and transforming it into the Innovation GPS.

THE CHALLENGE
Previously referred to as the ‘Innovation Barometer’, the tool empowers public sector leaders and representatives by providing valuable insights into their organisation's performance across five core areas of innovation: people empowerment, collaboration, leadership, rules and systems, and innovative outputs. These insights enable organizations to identify areas for improvement and learn from successful innovation projects. Through the collection of more than 200,000 data points from 2,348 public servants across 12 government organizations, insights were gained that revealed the term 'barometer' did not fully encompass the value of the tool. In the rebranding process, it was crucial to convey the tool's multifaceted value and create a brand that was innovative and disruptive to the typical look and feel of current platforms and tools used by public sector servants, while maintaining its credibility and integrity for adoption within the public sector.

THE Solution
The Innovation Barometer underwent a transformation to become the Innovation GPS, complete with the tagline 'growth in the public sector' which also serves as an acronym for GPS. The rebrand effectively captures the essence of the tool, emphasising the significance of innovation in producing better outcomes for Aotearoa. Development of the brand architecture followed, with a bold colour palette integrated into all brand graphics to represent each core area of innovation and evoke the corresponding emotional associations.

THE OUTCOME
As the Innovation Barometer brand had already gained traction, it was important to maintain some continuity while introducing the new brand. Several logo lockups were developed to phase out the Innovation Barometer and introduce the Innovation GPS. The new logo was designed to be fully responsive and flexible, with a tagline of 'The Innovation Barometer re-imagined' to provide a clear link between the previous and new brand. To create a comprehensive brand identity, a wide range of brand elements were developed, including a colour palette, typography, brand pattern, additional graphics, and iconography for each stock and sub-stock. Social media templates were also created to ensure consistent brand messaging across all platforms. An extensive brand guideline document was created to provide clear instructions for all marketing communications, corporate documentation, and website graphics. The Innovation GPS brand launched in late 2022. With its modern and innovative look and feel, the brand is poised to make a significant impact in the public sector and beyond.
